Our Story
The Evolution of PaddlePoint Watersports
PaddlePoint Watersports was born from nearly a decade of hands-on experience running Paddle & Go, a fully mobile stand-up paddleboard (SUP) lesson, tour, and rental business in Victoria, BC. For eight years, Paddle & Go operated across various locations, helping thousands of people discover the joy of paddleboarding. This mobile model gave the founder, Adil, invaluable insight into the challenges faced by paddlers, instructors, and business owners alike.
Through years of delivering rentals, guiding tours, and teaching beginners, it became clear that accessibility, convenience, and sustainability were the biggest obstacles for both customers and operators. Paddlers often struggled with transportation and scheduling, while the logistics of running a mobile operation proved time-consuming and resource-intensive. Additionally, from an environmental standpoint, personal ownership of paddleboards and kayaks presented its own inefficiencies—many people spend over $1,000 to buy equipment, require a vehicle to transport it, need the strength to lift and carry it, and must find storage space, all to paddle only a few hours per year. Most personal gear is stored outside, leading to the potential of theft, quicker degradation and unnecessary consumption of plastic and other non-recyclable materials.
A Smarter, More Sustainable Approach
These challenges sparked a new vision: a self-serve system that would make paddleboarding and kayaking easier, more efficient, and more sustainable. Every dollar earned and every lesson learned through Paddle & Go was reinvested into this vision, leading to the creation of PaddlePoint Watersports—a next-generation rental service powered by self-serve lockers.
PaddlePoint’s model maximizes the use of each piece of equipment, ensures proper maintenance, and extends its lifespan, reducing the amount of waste and minimizing the need for new production. Instead of hundreds of people each buying and storing their own equipment, PaddlePoint provides shared access to high-quality, well-maintained gear—eliminating the need for personal storage, reducing plastic consumption, and lowering the overall environmental footprint of paddlesports.
Empowering Guides & Instructors
Beyond making paddling more accessible for the public, PaddlePoint also adds immense value for guides and instructors. Traditional paddleboarding businesses require instructors to spend significant time transporting, unloading, and setting up gear before even getting on the water. With PaddlePoint’s self-serve system, guides can focus on what truly matters—delivering an incredible experience on the water.
With gear already stored and ready to go, instructors can lead higher-quality lessons and tours without the hassle of logistics. This allows for:
✔ More time on the water rather than handling equipment.
✔ A better experience for clients, as guides can focus entirely on teaching and safety.
✔ Increased flexibility for instructors, who can operate more efficiently and serve more paddlers.
Expanding the Vision
The first location at Elk Lake proved the concept’s success, with strong user feedback and growing demand. As interest in eco-friendly, flexible outdoor activities continues to rise, PaddlePoint is expanding across Vancouver Island and beyond, making adventure more accessible while helping to protect the environment. The mission remains simple: Paddle. Explore. Repeat—on your own terms, with less waste, more adventure, and a better experience for everyone on the water.
